Urban Dove: The Pigeon Registry

Why Register A Pigeon?

Here’s a little FYI:

Q:   What’s the one thing the “person who has everything” doesn’t have…?
A:   An officially registered NYC Pigeon!

Q:   How can you remember a fabulous trip to NYC?
      Or have someone to look out for before you even arrive in NYC?
A:   With a Pigeon Registration, of course!

Want to do something really easily online that will show someone you love them…? Here are some of your options:

    * Star Registration: $54 - $139
    * Sponsor a songwriter: $7,500
    * Sponsor a day of public radio: $180
    * Register a Spider: $5,000 (yes, i swear)
    * Your name on a piece of toast: $80 and up.
    * Register a Rose: $7,500 to $30,000, depending
      on the type and quality of the rose. One
      company will “name a new rose cultivar, or intentionally
      select a variety for you.” The cost is $75,000!
    * Pigeon Sponsorships for a homing pigeon race in Tulsa: are
      $250, $500 and $1,000. (And that’s just nuts.)

OR… for only $15 you can do the most legitimate & satisfying thing… Register A Pigeon! Pigeons are so much cuter and more romantic than giant balls of gas or emerging songwriters.

Soon, MySpace will be obsolete. Anyone who wants to be acknowledeged will have registered a pigeon.

iPods keep getting smaller but pigeons stay relatively the same size.

You can’t afford to live in New York City, but pigeons can.

You can visit your pigeon online anytime.

You can even print out the picture of your pigeon and go get it tattooed on your body. Permanently.

A pigeon registry costs about the same as three good tubes of toothpaste. And who needs three tubes at once?

You will forever see pigeons differently and begin to smile oddly at them, noticing how different they are from each other.

You will get really pissed when you see restaurants serving “pigeon.”

You will see pigeons on TV shows and in films and start shrieking that you think it’s “your” pigeon.

You will make at least one person really happy when you register a pigeon.

Pigeons are adorable. This isn’t an opinion. They just are. Look again. See?

They are not “flying rats,” or diseased as they are often blamed for being… in fact, they are a breed of dove and hygiene is more important to them than most college freshman.

They can live to be more than 15 years old (and most do, if they’re able to escape danger).

They can fly 40-50 miles-per-hour, but don’t really like to be more than 12 miles away from “home” at a time… they will usually always return to the same areas (good news for trying to meet your pigeon).

They usually mate for life (unlike other New Yorkers) & both parents produce milk for their young (yes, the guys give milk). In fact, the fathers are usually the ones watching over the kids all day.

Pigeons can see colours and ultraviolet light, making them cooler than us... not to mention the whole flying thing.

Like most items in the Pottery Barn catalogue, Pigeons come in as many as 28 different colour combinations! (How about that for your Metro-Sexual friend?)

Each pigeon is wholly unique and most will remind you of someone you know.
